LAUGHLIN RETREAT 2019
"SANTA CLAUS COMES TO THE RIVER"

On August 18th and 19th the Southern Stars Chapter of IADCCT hosted their 27th annual Laughlin Retreat at Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort.  We had 54 painters in attendance with many of them being new to IADCCT and first time Laughlin attendees.

This year our teachers on Saturday were Jan Dietman and Betty Lou Lee.  In the morning Jan taught her “Winter Barn” Technique . This technique was all done in Duncan Concepts and featured a barn set in a winter scene complete with pine trees and cardinals.  In the afternoon Betty Lou taught her “Christmas in the Desert” technique.  This was very unique with Saguaro cactus and Snowman holding a balloon that was floating in the air!

Our Saturday Evening event was soooo much Fun…..

First there was a written game-A-Z Name a Christmas item….then came the reindeer game.  This one was courtesy of Arlene Smith who gently persuaded Dru Woodward into being a “Reindeer” too!  4 teams were made from those in attendance and everyone tossed rings onto the reindeer antlers!  Team 2 Won!

Next came the Antler Hat game….basically blow balloons up, stuff them into panty hose and wear!  What a hoot….blowing up the balloons were a challenge in itself...and the panty hose were queen size!

And the winner….Grandma got run over by a deer….or maybe Grandma cut up the deer! This picture is only of the deer….the picture of Grandma and her sweater are MIA! Congrats to Jan Dietman and her Mom :)

We all feasted on Santa Cookies and Hot Chocolate with all the trimmings for our evening snack.

Our teacher on Sunday was David Hoff. He taught his 2019 Santa face on the new Duncan square coup plate….it was challenging AND a lot of FUN.  David always makes his students laugh while teaching exceptional pieces and this one was right up there with the best of them.  Thank you David.

And last but not least were our terrific lunches complete with table favors.  We had centerpieces too which were all some type of ceramic Santa all made by members of the Southern Stars.  They were beautiful and everyone loved them.  Thank you to EVERY Southern Star member who made this another memorable and best ever retreat!

OOPS...forgot to mention that one of the best things about our retreat is the sharing…”Each one Teach one”….we had many members sharing tips and/or techniques which will be bundled together and sent to all members who attended via email. Thanks to all who shared-you will be getting a Educational Shareware credit for participating.

MORE fun pictures….
