SOUTHERN STARS HONORS PAST PRESIDENT ARLENE SMITH
Our Chapter, and several others as well, and many members of IADCCT are mourning the loss of Arlene, a great teacher, mentor and friend. While many of us were aware of her health issues we were still so surprised at her unexpected passing. We literally are just “picking up the pieces” as I write this. Elsewhere in this newsletter is her “In Memoriam” that I was privileged to author with the help of her family.
The Southern Stars Chapter will be having several tributes to her. The first one will be at our Laughlin Retreat in August. Other types of memorials are also being determined together with her family and these will be announced and shared on social media for those who are interested.
Many of you know that Arlene has been our “Party Queen” for our annual Laughlin Retreat since before she moved to Arizona. She already had most of the plans for this year’s event finalized. We are continuing with what she planned and MORE. I am honored and pleased to have taught her last published piece, “Envision Sunflowers” featured in the Mayco “The Best of Duncan” brochure at our 2021 Southern Stars 30th Birthday Party Ceramic Retreat.
It truly is a beautiful piece! For those of you who wish to attend the Retreat – please register early….seats are limited.
Hoping to see many of you soon!
